About ADCIRC

ADCIRC is a highly developed computer program for solving the equations of motion for a moving fluid on a rotating earth. ADCIRC uses a system of computer programs for solving time dependent, free surface circulation and transport problems in two and three dimensions. These programs utilize the finite element method in space allowing the use of highly flexible, unstructured grids. Typical ADCIRC applications have included: (i) modeling tides and wind driven circulation, (ii) analysis of hurricane storm surge and flooding, (iii) dredging feasibility and material disposal studies, (iv) larval transport studies, (v) near shore marine operations.

Bay St Louis Storm SurgeADCIRC can be run either as a two-dimensional depth integrated (2DDI) model or as a three-dimensional (3D) model. In either case, elevation is obtained from the solution of the depth-integrated continuity equation in Generalized Wave-Continuity Equation (GWCE) form. Velocity is obtained from the solution of either the 2DDI or 3D momentum equations. All nonlinear terms have been retained in these equations.

ADCIRC can be run using either a Cartesian or a spherical coordinate system.
